Pineapples are so cool.

When they say "a ruined innocence. tainted. broken," or whatever, it's true. I can pinpoint the exact moment I lost my innocence; the exact moment my life came tumbling down and I don't think it has stopped since then.
Maybe.

13 Reasons Why may be the net flick of the season. But it really fucked me up. The way it depicts suicide, mental health, bullying, and just survivors guilt in general is so wrong. As someone who has gone through all this shit, I didn't understand why that show left a bad taste in my mouth until today.

Hannah was to blame for her own suicide. Maybe Mr. Porter as well but no one else. Bryce did rape her, she was bullied, Tyler stalked her. But the decision was hers. And maybe because there was no mention of mental health issues or depression or suicide prevention, Hannah is seen as an attention seeker. And the story is to blame for that. In no way is depression mentioned. Hannah is seen as such an over dramatic person, who didn't reach out to an adult for help until the last cause. So yes, Mr Porter was the only person in this show who deserved any type of blame. Hannah should have reached out to her family which, I honestly am jealous of. Her parents are so loving, caring, genuine yet she hides from them. The relationship felt so unreal. Maybe she didn't realize what she had because she always had it.

Her suicide was so graphic to the extent that I was triggered. I'm on anti-depressants, almost 2 years clean of self harm yet I was so triggered to the point where I wanted to fucking do it myself. The rape scene was too graphic. Maybe that's me but, for a show catered towards a young audience, it's too much.

The only other tapes I can understand are Courtney and Bryce. Courtney for being the most selfish, ignorant bitch. And Bryce for being a rapist.

Justin did nothing wrong. He was hurting on his own. Jessica had her own reasons and beliefs to stop being Hannah's friend. Alex, well he was just being a teenager. Clay, she blamed Clay for no reason god dammit. She made him feel the most guilty. Zach was stupid but for no reason should he have been there. Hannah overreacted to his niceness. Marcus, well he's selfish but again, he left her alone later. And Sheri did nothing to Hannah. At all. Dear god, There are 3 reasons why and only one of them was a direct result.

I understand her feelings. I do. Constant bullying. But Clay was her friend, yet she chose to be alone. Clay was alone.

I see Clay as Charlie from Perks of Being A Wallflower. On the sidelines, socially awkward but not suicidal. Depressed maybe, but recovering. Until Charlie was triggered at the end, which was the release of emotions which I can see... he did not do anything rash like Hannah. He saw friends, he saw people he could turn to. All Hannah saw was hatred that was not even there.

So yes, Hannah was depressed. I understand.
Suicidal, I understand too.
A risk. Mr. Porter why did you not do anything? Victim blaming, ignoring the signs. The pity towards them they make us eat. He has a family and a child, yet nothing to protect his job. That is on him.

There are a million problems with this show. No amount of friendship can cure suicide. No amount of blame can take the decision off your shoulders. It's your decision to kill yourself, maybe you think of these reasons but they aren't the ones who slit your wrists. You are.
Maybe you let it all out, and when you make the tapes you feel the fresh start but why would you hold it on one person's words at the end?
Keep fighting. Because that moment of grief she felt was temporary, and she knew it too. You can see the regret of slitting wrists. But then you think, she had too much pride, she wanted to blame everyone else for this and get revenge. That's why she let herself die.

Hannah saw herself and only herself. And Tony was there to make sure Clay did not kill himself too, because of the guilt trip Hannah gives him.

Hannah, you deserved to live through your pain, not make everyone else suffer.

(P.S. Jeff didn't need to die, Sheri did not need to be on those tapes at all. Clay may have needed an explanation but Sheri did nothing to Hannah.)
